Consultations between Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Moldova and Romania
A new round of consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Moldova and Romania took place on 10 October 2017, in Bucharest. The Moldovan delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Lilian Darii and the Romanian side by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dan Neculăescu.

During the consultations, the two officials made an overview of the latest developments in the bilateral political dialogue, including the sectorial cooperation and interaction within the frameworks of international organisations. They also exchanged views on regional security and the Transnitrian settlement process, as well as the European agenda of the Republic of Moldova.

Deputy Minister Darii underlined the constant support of Romania to the Republic of Moldova in the spirit of the Strategic Partnership for Moldova's European integration, mentioning in this context the common historical, linguistic and cultural affinities. In this context, the interlocutors expressed mutual interest in continuing holding joint sessions of two governments, as well as maintaining on the bilateral agenda the meetings of the Joint Commission for European Integration. They also emphasised the need to continue realising joint sectorial projects in such areas as energy, transport, road infrastructure, health, education, with direct impact on improvement of living conditions of the population.

During the discussions on regional security, security environment around the Republic of Moldova and the Transnistrian file, it was emphasised that the "5 + 2" negotiation format is the mechanism to generate a sustainable political solution to the Transnistrian conflict, on the basis of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, with a special status for the Transnistrian region.
