Republic of Moldova finishes Chairmanship of the Group of Eastern European States

In February 2019, the Republic of Moldova held the rotating Chairmanship of the Group of Eastern European States (GEE) at the United Nations. During a working lunch that marked the end of Moldovan Chairmanship, Ambassador Victor Moraru presented a summary of Chair’s activities.

The activities included, inter alia, organisation of briefings with the representatives of the UN Secretariat, consultations with the co-facilitators of several UNGA negotiation processes, participation in various meetings involving the Chairs of the UN regional groups, as well as the endorsement of GEE candidatures for various UN elections.

The Eastern European Group is one of the five unofficial Regional Groups in the United Nations that acts, inter alia, as an informal means of sharing the distribution of posts for UN elective bodies. It is composed of 23 states.
