United Nations General Assembly decided to include in the Agenda for seventy-third session a new item, entitled “Complete withdrawal of foreign military forces from the territory of the Republic of Moldova”

Acting on the consensus recommendation of its General Committee, the General Assembly adopted, on 21 September 2018, a decision to include in the agenda of the seventy-third session a new item, entitled “Complete withdrawal of foreign military forces from the territory of the Republic of Moldova”.

By adopting this decision, the General Assembly recognized the need to be seized of a situation involving the violation of sovereignty, territorial integrity and permanent neutrality of the Republic of Moldova as a result of the continued, 27 years-long, unlawful stationing on its territory of military forces and armaments belonging to another UN Member State – the Russian Federation

On the same day, the General Assembly adopted the work programme and agenda for its seventy-third session, deciding to include also, by recorded votes, the items “Situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine” and “The responsibility to protect and the prevention of genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity”.

During approval of the work programme and agenda, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova made a procedural statement and voted in favour of formally adding the afore-mentioned items to the agenda.
