The new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations, Victor Moraru, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres

On July 5th, 2017, the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations, Victor Moraru, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

The formal presentation of credentials was followed by a tete-a-tete meeting during which the priorities of cooperation between the UN and the Republic of Moldova were discussed.

Referring to 25th anniversary of country’s admission to the UN, Ambassador Victor Moraru mentioned, inter alia, that Moldova’s acceptance in the UNO prompted its broad international recognition as an independent and sovereign country. He also stressed that Moldova’s priorities at the UN take into consideration both its commitments towards organization and the national imperatives flowing from the need to ensure democratic and sustainable development of the country and its territorial reintegration.

The new Permanent Representative emphasized that the Republic of Moldova will continue to support an international system based on multilateralism, international law and the Charter of the United Nations. The country will actively participate in the UN activities designed to prevent conflicts, to promote peaceful resolution of conflicts, to strengthen international peace and security, to safeguard respect for human rights and to implement the sustainable development objectives.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his confidence that during the tenure of the new Permanent Representative, the cooperation between the UN and the Republic of Moldova will be further strengthened. He positively appreciated both the valuable contribution of the Republic of Moldova to the UN system and the support expressed for his reform proposals aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the UN action. H.E. António Guterres expressed his availability and interest to visit the Republic Moldova during his mandate as the UN Secretary-General.
